Heat, Phishers & Templates

I really don’t like to write about problems. Maybe that’s why I haven’t posted anything since last Thursday. Or, perhaps—just perhaps—I have been so consumed with attempting to resolve the dilemmas that I haven’t had time to write.

In my quick-witted intellect I have discerned no solution to my first predicament. It is hot here. It is very hot here. The temperatures have been in the 90s for days, with the “heat index”—whatever that is—as high as 118. What makes it even more appalling is the great weather we had just a week or so ago: temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

I don’t know if you have every lived in a river valley. I have lived in three: the valleys of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers in the United States and the valley of the Main River in Germany. What I have experienced as significant about river valleys is that one not only has to deal with the heat, but also the humidity. I have spent time in the deserts of west Texas and Arizona. There I experienced high temperatures. But the dry heat in the desert is, for me, much more agreeable than the humid heat of the river valley.

I realize that I can’t control the weather, so yesterday I decided it may be a good time to get out of town. Thus, tomorrow I’m going to spend a day or two east of here and out of this valley. Problem solved! Well, maybe.

The second difficulty I have encountered was another email from a phisher. I rather assume it came from the same source, because this one came from a pseudo-eBay and eBay owns PayPal. Thankfully, I am a relatively fast learner and didn’t even click the link to the fraudulent eBay site. I immediately forwarded the email to eBay and within minutes received one back confirming it was from a phisher. Problem solved! I hope.

Glitch number three I have been unable to disentangle. This one relates to this site and that my posts are not appearing as they should appear. There is a quite a bit of empty space that shouldn’t be here. This empty space appears differently, depending upon what browser I use. With Internet Explorer, I see the post subject/header followed by so much space that I have to beyond the archive links on the right before I come to the pervious post. With Netscape, that empty space is between the end of the post and the line that says when it was posted and offers the link to Comments.

I have messed around with the blog settings and have not been able to remove all of that blank space. I have come to believe the problem has something to do with the template, but I can’t determine what is wrong. If the cause is with the template, then this is a problem I can’t resolve on my own. I can read Hebrew and Greek, Latin and a bit of German; I cannot read html—a language that I really wish were “Greek to me.” Problem unresolved. I need help!
