Interrupted Thoughts on “The Meaning of Life”

Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated, thus, everyone's task is unique as his specific opportunity. Viktor Frankl, Man's Search For Meaning

I began writing this post after spending several hours in deep thought about “the meaning of life.” Being who I am and what I have read and what I have done, my thoughts eventually turned to Viktor Frankl. So, I thought I would write about Frankl, logotherapy, and the meaning of life. Unfortunately, at this moment, I can’t. My thoughts are too subjective and disarrayed to write about the meaning of life—at least at the moment.

So allow me to ask two deep questions, not about my life, but about the life on the one who shares my house: Alex.

Why it is that Alex avoids drinking from his very decorative water dish, but sticks his face and paw into any glass of water he can reach from which I am drinking?

Why is it that, when Alex wants to go outside and I open the back door, he simply stands and looks without moving and then walks to the front door; but at other times ,when I open the front door, he stands and looks and then walks to the back door?

  1. Just wanted to say hi and check out some of the comments on your blog. Some of these are pretty weird.

I seriously would like you to check out my store though. It is related to gourmet chocolate Know I know not everyone likes gourmet chocolate , but those people are usually hard to find.

Come by when you get a chance and look around. I think you will love it.

  2. Thomas, I agree: all pets are nuts. Of course, Alex thinks I am, too.

I like Tom T. Hall’s philosophy. Perhaps I just go with it and forgo all of this damned soul-searching. I think it is getting me down.

  3. I would have to agree-all pets are nuts (and it can't be a reflection of the owner...)
If indeed Tom T. Hall's words are true, how can we adapt for the females out there??? I can go for faster horses and older whiskey...

  4. Well, punkmom, my friend Candy is 31 and she prefers "men" who are 20-22. She says, “They cum fast but cum often.” Of course, Candy is a bit like my cat, Alex, but don’t tell her that I said so.

  8. Song: I wonder if all cats have the fallibility to ignore anything and everything they don’t want to do.
