“I just wonder if the Republicans are smart enough to not out-smart themselves?”

Today an old friend emailed me a possibly rhetorical question. (I say “rhetorical” because I expect him to answer it in another email). He wrote: “I just wonder if the Republicans are smart enough to not out-smart themselves?”

As I reflected upon his question, I remembered the words of this great Republican sage:

"Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child." ~ Dan Quayle

"The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century." ~ Dan Quayle

"I have made good judgments in the Past. I have made good judgments in the Future." ~ Dan Quayle

"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure." ~ Dan Quayle

"Welcome to President Bush, Mrs. Bush, and my fellow astronauts." ~Dan Quayle

And, last, but not least:

"I am not part of the problem. I am a Republican." ~ Dan Quayle

  3. Dan certainly was/is a character. I can’t remember any other Vice President in my life time whose words were such, uh, balderdash.

Here’s another Quayle Quote:” I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix.”
