Contrary to the
FOX Network report that Miss America, Tara Conner, would by dethroned by
The Donald, His Royal Highness
told the world that instead Ms. would be entering rehab. The primary allegation seems to revolve around her frequenting
New York City bars while being under the legal drinking age. Since Ms. Conner will be twenty-one next Monday—and thus of legal drinking age in the Big Apple—I wonder about the flap.
Actually, I have not paid any attention to anything dealing with beauty pageants for about thirty years. Had not this flap about Miss Conner not come up, I would not have even known—or cared—that she is from a small Kentucky town named Dawson Springs. It is the Dawson Springs connection—and only the Dawson Springs connection—that has motivated me to write these Bytes.
Main Street, Dawson Springs, Kentucky
It was about forty years ago that I visited Dawson Springs, Kentucky. As I remember, there wasn’t much to the town—and it appears that there still isn’t much to it. It, however, was the home of my roommate when I was a freshman at the University of Kentucky, Bill Paul. Bill invited me to spend a weekend home with him. I did and that accounts for my visit to Dawson Springs.
It also accounts for my interest in the 2006 Miss America flap. A town the size of Dawson Springs usually doesn’t receive a lot of attention. To have one of its own named Miss Kentucky and then Miss America is a really big deal. To have that same young woman dethroned from her title by a sleazy, egomaniac like The Donald would have been devastating for the community.
So I have been pulling for Dawson Springs. Miss America and Donald Trump and even Tara Conner are secondary to a small Kentucky town. (Someday I may write about my visit to Dawson Springs. As with much of my life, it was a comedy or tragedy, depending on how I tell the story).
They should just ban any pageants. They are pointless.

Donald Trump is sitting in judgment of somebody else's morality? This country just gets weirder and weirder!
ReplyDeleteoh i saw the clip yesterday...i found it a little funny when Trump said she's getting a second chance..after all the chances life has given him, surely a small town girl deserves it ! And he made it sound like he was so magnanimous..
ReplyDeleteI like your description of Trump: sleazy egomaniac. I would add to that: greedy, selfish, wolfish, and despotic.
ReplyDeleteWait, are you telling me that a hot bonde with some celebrity connections was able to get into bars even though she was underage?
ReplyDeleteI am shocked! Shocked I tell you!
the world of pageants is interesting and rather frightening if you ask me....
ReplyDeleteand that's such a cute town! reminds me of the little town I grew up in.
Hmmm ...
ReplyDeleteYesterday you and El Cabrero both posted about the Christmas controversy yesteray, and now you and I have both posted on our blogs about Tara Conner (who, BTW, is Miss USA, not Miss America, not that it really matters except to pageant sponsors like The Donald).
Great minds, indeed ...
We want to hear the whole story just like it happened. No long short of it.:)
ReplyDeleteIs that anything like Dawson's Creek?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I kind of see The Donald's point of view. Miss America is suppose to be a role model, even better than a role model...it's how the pagent has always been even before Trump took over. So there is a sort of reputation to keep up.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to hearing the story of your visit to Dawson Springs. I'm sure it will be very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteYou're sweet, Nick!
ReplyDeleteDonald Trump is a blowhard.
This story has been doing the rounds in our news, too. Donald Trump is a doofus !!
ReplyDeleteTake care, and have a Merry Christmas ... hugs to you and Alex ... Meow
Nick, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!!! All the best to you!!
ReplyDeleteI've been through Dawson Springs. Not a lot to remember about it. I suppose the town's now "on the map."
