Dilbert Teaches Me a New Word…

…but you’ll not see it in next Saturday’s comics.

Ohio Snapping Turtle

While reading the entertaining blog of Scott Adams, the creator of the comic strip Dilbert, I learned a new, uh, slang word. Adams used it in a one panel of the strip that will appear on October 6th. Unfortunately, Adam’s editors nixed the use of the word, even though Adams had, as he wrote “thought (he) could get away with (it) because the naughty meaning isn’t universally known.”

I must admit that I was unaware of the word's impish meaning. And I suspect that perhaps one of the few people whom I know who would be aware of the definition is the witty, rascally mischievous, (sometimes, uh, often) anally fixated Bucky Four-Eyes.

Anyway, the word is turtlehead (or, turtle head) and you can find it’s, uh, off color definition HERE.

And, if you want to see the context in which Dilbert (Scott Adams) uses it that won’t appear in next Saturday’s comic, click HERE to go to The Dilbert Blog.

  1. You mean that's such a common topic of discussion among some people that they've actually made up a slang word for it? Wow. For once, I'm happy to be out of the loop.

  4. I know the term (I have sons) but it wouldn't have occurred to me in the context he uses it. I'm too stupid!

I like his cat comments though.

  8. I have to admit, I expected the answer to have something to do with circumcision (or lack thereof). I kind of wish it was!

  9. I am definitely lacking in my knowledge of present-day slang. Thank the gods for that!

  10. My slang is SO not up to date. So while I'm not ENTIRELY sure what that means, I think I could hazard a guess. A guess I won't share!

(Interestingly, I have a co-worker that everyone calls Dilbert. Though not to his face.)

  11. I did, in fact, know what this was...but the urban dictionary is an awesome site to look up the origins of phrases and words we all say but don't know where they came from :)

  12. From now on when I read Dilbert I shall look for innuendos and other such word plays that Ms. Adams may employ that I would otherwise miss.

  13. Wow, I thought that definition was fairly common knowledge. Maybe it's for the best that it's not.
