Yesterday, with Tasha’s assistance, I took Alex to visit his friend and veterinarian, Caryl. It was a long and tiring day for all of us. I offer you the following photographs (a click on your mouse will enlarge each) without further comment:
Hi Nick ~~ What a big job it is to take Alex to the vet. Tasha looks well and is good to help you. Poor Alex had quite a few things done to him, he would be glad to get home. Glad you got your award. Thanks for the blessings and the same to you. Hope you have a relaxing weekend. Take care, Very Best Wishes, Merle.
You are a skillful story teller, Nick, using words or pictures. These photographs are excellent. Also, I have come to appreciate you Song in my Mind Today music. The one today about Louisiana I have not before heard. I enjoyed it very much.
Oh, poor Alex, that was a lot of terrible torture he endured at the vet's office. I wonder why he had to have a fungal culture? Does he have any suspected spots of ringworm? And what is the antibiotic (Clavamox) for? I hope Alex is A-Okay!
S E E QUINE: Caryl has been very special to my animals, both Alex and Muffin. That’s why I drive half an hour one way to take them to her, even though there is a vet’s office two blocks from my house.
SWEETS: With Tasha now able to use my camera, there are more and more photos being taken. She has been chronicling in photos the removal of a huge tree in the yard next to mine. When the tree is finally down, I’ll post the pics.
ASH: Thanks for dropping by. With the loss of my data in the computer now filled with Alex hair, I need make sure you’re in my Bloglines.
THE DIVINE MISS M: Alex is usually not happy to be in his cat carrier. The exception is at the vet’s office when he seems to feel safer in the carrier than out of it.
CHICA: Thank you. Almost 40 thus far. However, folks who haven’t known me before I dropped the pounds still look at me as if I’m a misfit. Well, drop by when you’re in Louisville at the end of June.
THE LONE BEADER: Alex is basically healthy except for allergies, which plague everyone, including felines, in the damned Ohio River Valley.
MERLE: Thank you, friend. Yesterdays adventures wore all of us out. Matter of fact, Alex is at the moment bugging me to take a nap with him.
JEAN-MARC: Thank you for the compliment. I’ve used stories from years in my writings and even my sermons. The ‘Song in my Mind Today,’ is from the magazine “Oxford America.” One a year they publish a music issue which contains a great CD of the music discussed in the issue. “Louisiana 1927” is from the 2000 issue.
DAISY: Thank you. Your questions are the kind that another kitty cat would ask about Alex. This vet visit was Alex’s annual get everything visit.
For the past several years Alex has scratched and licked his fur in places until he reaches and actually scratches his skin. Last year Caryl determined that Alex is allergic to something. He was treated with antibiotics and antihistamines. We began the antihistamine treatment earlier this spring. However, although Alex scratches less, he still scratches.
At the last visit Caryl decided to do the fungal culture because this 100+ year old house has quite a bit of mold in the basement and in its walls. I am severely allergic to mold and am taking two meds specifically for than. Caryl wants to see if Alex may also be allergic to some fungus.
The fur ball and I return to Caryl in three weeks to checkout the results!
Nick,Harvey my "owner" hates going to the vet as weel.He is a mildmannered cat mind you.Take him to the vet and he becomes this nasty bitting creature.
Good to see Tasha again! My daughter K (vet tech) & I were just talking about how many people don't take care of their cats and dogs, then FREAK OUT when something happens...so glad to see Alex has you well trained! ;-)
Ohhh, my kitty HATES to go to the vet, lol Thx for sharing your & Alex's trip -- I see that long list of stuff they did on the bill, but no $ amt & I knooooooooooow it wasn't cheap. Got kitty health insurance? ;)
Awwww... Alex is a good kitty. I'm impressed with his cooperative behavior when visiting his friend, Caryl.
Seeing your photos, I was wishing I was there. I can feel your love for Alex and the caring (and I'm sure love, also) that Caryl has for him, too. Tasha has a great smile and I bet she's a joy to have around.
I love looking at old photographs, and I enjoyed the "idol" story. I always figured that idols were things that got between ourselves and God- things like greed, lust, power, envy- not material representations of the Divine.
PINK: After our adventures yesterday, today I have felt much as you (and Alex0 felt yesterday: exhausted. I just awakened from my second (long) nap of the day. Alex, on the other hand, has spent much of today catting around the neighborhood.
Thank you for your compliment. Weight loss always makes me look and feel much better. About ten years ago I dropped 100 pounds in 10 months. Of course, then I was much more active than I can be today.
CHARLIE: My mother always said that I looked best in green. I truly hope that wasn’t my motivation to purchase the car and shirt!
LUNA: Alex hates the carrier, too. Someday I must have someone shot of video of what Alex and I go through to plunge the fur ball into his carrier.
SQUIRL: Thank you. We are taking more and more photos these days. I am thinking about teaching the fur ball how to operate my cameras.
TUG: It is good to have Tasha back even though I greatly appreciate Vaughn. I wish I could have both of them, but government bureaucracies are neither wise nor flexible enough to allow something “different.”
I—and I don’t believe I’m alone—take much better care of Alex’s health needs than I do my own. Yet, I am sure than those of us who do that are very much in the minority.
‘SHOT: I’ll take a bit of your coolness, if you don’t mind. My non-air-conditioned house is at the moment 82 F inside.
Alex recovers fast. However, the trauma is over for neither of us: the furball must take 1 pill in the morning for each of the next four days plus a ml. of liquid medication each morning and evening until the bottle is empty. As we get further into the routine, Alex is discovering new way to keep the “nassy medicines” out of his mouth.
COFFEE MESSIAH: I understand your philosophy. I understand that I have a need to care for sentient beings or I don’t feel complete. Each of our philosophies is OK.
LIL BIT: I must be lucky to have always been associated with animals who haven’t minded seeing their vets. Or, perhaps, I have been lucky in the vets my animal friends have chosen to see.
Yes, the vet costs (which I cut off the statement before I posted it) were quite hefty. But, Mr. A. is worth it.
CAROL: You’re welcome. There really was a huge aura of warmth and love in that small room where Alex, Caryl, Tasha, and I were.
PAULINE: Thank you. Sometimes I really wish I have a dollar or two for every pound of body fat I have dropped throughout my life.
Alex was very glad to get out of his carrier when he arrived home. Tasha carried him in and Alex sprinted out the door even before I got to the porch. However, he accompanied me through the door and immediately sought a place to catnap.
ANNDI: You said it well! Alex is adventurous and certainly a cat about town.
CATNAPPING: Yes, the fur ball made it through another trip to see Caryl. I’ve not told him that we have another appointment in three weeks. If I do tell him, he’ll hide out on appointment day.
THOMAS: I, too, enjoy old photographs. I truly wish I had the hundreds that my ex-wife borrowed ten or so years ago. I believe that there are reasons why the three “One God” religions forbid the creation of images of God. One is that each believer would create the image of God in his or her own image. Another is that we humans find it much easier to worship something we can see and touch than spirit. That was one of the unfortunate results of the Protestant Reformation: Protestants have come to worship the Bible instead of God.
Hi Nick, what a great post! I bet the most tiring aspect of the whole day was wrestling Alex into the carrier in the first place. Love the celebratory case of Root Beer upon returning home. Love that post style, may steal a page from your blog one day!
` Alex, does that look mean 'glad to be back!' or what? She seems like a nice veterinarian, though... until....

hi Nick - I feel a bit like that last photo of Alex right now. She does look like a nice vet but I'm sure he's so happy to be home :)
ReplyDeleteYou're looking really good there Nick. Keep up the good work with Jenny :)
xx
pinks
Green shirt, green car. I like that. I hope Alex gets over the itching.
ReplyDeleteMy kitty hates being in a kitty carrier. Alex looks like he is the same way.
ReplyDeleteFine bunch of photographs, Nick. Tasha and you are taking good ones. I am glad you can now be in the pictures.
ReplyDeletelol! he had a rough day!!! Poor kitty!
ReplyDeleteAt least he is "up to spec" now and can party with the other kitties :)
Nick,Harvey my "owner" hates going to the vet as weel.He is a mildmannered cat mind you.Take him to the vet and he becomes this nasty bitting creature.

ReplyDeleteWe're not quite to the short sleeves time of year up here, so I'm a bit envious.
ReplyDeleteYou master seems none the worse for wear.
That is an undertaking.....I had a manx cat when I was younger. After it had been killed by a dog, I knew I could never have a pet again.
ReplyDeleteThen I had my son. After he left home, I knew I'd never want my own little person again. He's a great young man, but one was plenty 4 the experience.
It doesn't pay to be sensitive in this life.
If I could manage that, I would be in a field or have been in a field more appropriate for those feelings and to do more good. ; )
Cheers and good luck finding that $30. machine! ; )
Ohhh, my kitty HATES to go to the vet, lol

What an adventure for a cat about town!

ANGUS: Thank you. Until I taught Tasha I had no one around regularly who could shoot photographs and videos.
ReplyDeleteXMICRA: You were prophetic! Once Alex rested up from his adventure, all he has been doing is partying with his chums.
MIKE GOLCH: Perhaps Harvey needs to se a cool vet like Caryl?
JODY: Yes, he is!

I see that Mr Alex the Furball is just as handsome as the last time (too long ago) I visted.
