Wednesday Coffeehouse: Mixed Media

Welcome to Sometimes Saintly Nick’s coffeehouse. Be hip. Be cool. Jive to the happenings.

All coffeehouse of the beat generation didn’t stick to one genre. Some invited anyone in the place to come on stage and do their thing. Looking around, I see some cool cats sipping java this Wednesday. Let’s see who is willing to step up to the stage.

Jazz

Charlie Parker: K. C. Blues

Prose

Jack Kerouac: reading from his book The Subterraneans

Hip Comedy

Lord Buckley: Marc Antony' Funeral Oration

Folk Music

Bob Dylan: Maggie’s Farm

Film:
Allan Ginsberg and Bob Dylan at the grave of Jack Kerouac

Be cool, man. Ain't no reason to rush off.

In case anyone is interested, all of the audios I post are from my own CDs.

  4. Azsonofagun: Thank you, Rex.

Puss-in-Boots : Oh, I love misspent youthful exuberance! Glad to help you back to it. (Maybe I’ve never left it behind).

Kcinnova : Thank you. Sorry it didn’t play. I have had problems playing audios and videos when I used Foxfire as my browser. However, Internet Explorer and Opera work just fine.

  8. Cool music! Hearing Kerouac read and being with Dylan and Ginsberg at Jack’s graveside was awesome.

  9. I wanted to be a beatnik I was just born in the wrong generation :)
I love folk music and poetry and more obscure comedy, love British comedians.
Dearest may I use the bottomless cup of coffee graphic?? Let me know.

  11. Angus: You are most welcome—and, thank you! These coffeehouses for me are a work of love.

Anonymous: Thank you. I have quite a few CD recordings of Jack Kerouac and each time I listen to him I again realize how much I really wish I had met him. Dylan and Ginsberg at Jack’s graveside was a video I just happened upon as I was searching for something showing Ginsberg reading “Howl.” I am so glad that I came upon it.

Sassy Mama Bear: Perhaps we were both born just a wee bit too late. Of course, by the time I became acquainted with Bohemians and Beats, the Hippies were the thing.

Certainly you may use the bottomless cup of coffee graphic! Of course, I already told you that in the comment I wrote on your neat blog.

  12. Nick,

Have you seen the movie about Dylan: "I'm Not There"?

Thanks for the Coffee House entertainment!

  13. I read Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" years ago, to see what all the fuss was about. I really can't remember much about it...but he is one handsome dude. Or should I say "was"...
