The damned error message is back!

The damned error message is back!

After Microsoft ran one of those automatic updates. I tried to view a video on Real Player that I had created for Alex’s blog and this is what I got:

The message refuses to allow me to run not only Real Player but also MGI Photo Suite and is affecting the video portion of my virus scan program. I do not know what else is screwed up!

I am pissed, primarily at Microsoft! Of course that does no good because I can find many reports of folks experiencing the same problem with the same error message generated by the same Microsoft installed program (CiceroUIWindFrame) but I can find no way to repair it. I have already disabled and then removed CiceroUIWindFrame, whatever that is, but the damned program has returned on its own.

So I am again frustrated, as I waste hours on trying to get rid of that damned error message!

Obviously, this is not what I intended to post to Nick’s Bytes today. However, I have yet to write what I intended to post because of the time I have spent attempting to find a fix for this damned error message!!!!!!!!!!

So, allow me to share with you a video of Pilobolus on the Conan O'Brien ’s TV program sent to me by an old college chum. (If you have never seen Pilobolus perform, this will be a real treat!)

  2. bummer. I had my own cettle of fish to deal with.I had a trojan sneak into my computer disgized as a driver up date it attacked every part of my computer. I found a malware removal tool and it cleaned up my computer. it is called malwarebytes the nice part it's free. but they do want to to buy a more expensive program.

  3. It's not some sort of mischievous virus, is it Nick? You know, masquerading as a MS update? You may have to get your hard drive cleaned of it.

Hope you get to the bottom of this nuisance.

  4. How annoying! I hope I don't get it because I just wouldn't know where to start!

  5. Rhapsody: I wonder what it is about this time of the year that seems to have so many computers acting up? Perhaps I need to consult an astrologer? (I just heard a very informative program on BBC World Service about Zoroastrianism in Iran).

Mike Golch: I’m glad you were able to rid your computer of that Trojan! I suddenly realize that I find it strange that they should be named Trojans when it was the Greeks to built the horse to which that malady refers.

Puss-in-Boots : Nope, it isn’t a virus. It’s a real, honest program that has to do with speech recognition that Microsoft includes in XP. There are lots of complaints written about it and well as lots of suggested fixes. I’m trying the fixes one at a time. The last time this happened it took me 3 or 4 days to find one that works!

Akelamalu : I hope it doesn’t hit you either! The best way to prevent that is not to use XP’s voice recognition program! (I have shut mine down, but once one uses it, especially in conjunction with MS Outlook, the CiceroUIWindFrame is somehow activated and keeps thinking that certain programs contain that .dll that they don’t.

    Yucky, ain’t it?

  6. Nick, take a look at http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-xp/67639-vista-upgrade-advisor-fails-c-script-dll-not-valid-image.html#post364668

  7. If you're sure it's a Windows Update that did the damage, you should be able to go to the control panel and uninstall the updates one at a time until things work again.

Microsoft usually eventually fixes their fixes, so if you turn updates off for a week, they will probably have fixed it by then.

  8. I am sorry you are still having this problem, Nick. Is there any way you can just ignore it?

  9. Nick, you should have a "restore" function that will allow you to set your computer to it's configuration PRIOR to the download. that may be your best bet.

  10. Bobcat: Thanks for the link. Unfortunately it refers to Vista and I’m using XP as an operating sustem.

Thomas: There is part of the problem. I am not positive it is an update that brought it back. All I do know is that it was after an automatic update the problem began again.

  11. Abby: I can ignore some of the problem, but not all of it. I need, for example, to view the results of my virus scans and, even though the virus scan works, I can’t see the results and thus instruct the program on how to deal with any problems it finds! At least it hasn’t affected my browsers or my Internet connection!

China Girl: Thank you! I need some luck with this one.

Dana: Yep, it would be nice if I could. However, when I attempt to open System Restore I get the same damned message:

“The application or DLL c:\windows\system32\script.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check against your installation diskette.”

BTW, I checked c:\windows\system32\ and script.dll does not exist!

  12. Sorry about your computer problems, Nick. It takes so much time to figure these things out and fix them.

I really enjoy Pilobolus. I saw them live once in the 1980's and just sat there completely awed. This video is great!

  13. Carol : It certainly is time consuming! And with my napping habits/needs I don’t have the time I once had. If I can’t find a solution by tomorrow, the notebook is off to the Geek Squad, where I still have a year plus of service/repair paid in advance.

So you saw Pilobolus in person! Way back in the ‘80s? I suppose that testifies to how isolated I have been through the years: I had never seen nor heard of Pilobolus until the other when I received that link from my buddy Rudy!

Alex and I hope that your mousie problem is getting under control.

  14. I can't help Nick, I'm useless at this sort of stuff. Love the video, very clever...

  15. I have no answer to the problem, Rev Nick. I do hope that it does not affect you blogging.

  16. Queernie: I’m almost useless in dealing with this stuff—and I’ve about run out of ideas on this one! I was fascinated when I saw the Pilobolus video; it was the first I’d ever heard of them. I’m glad you enjoyed it, too.

Joshua in Cannelton: Thank you. So far I’ve been able to work around the problems that would affect my bogging by using programs that are not blocked.

  17. I hate the errors, too! I have the same type of problem because I deleted something Java in an effort to make more space once. Not fun!

  18. I really really hate when my computer refuses to work correctly. For the money you pay for them-they should NOT have these kind of problems.

  19. Thank you for the information. I am have the same problem and getting the same error message.
