Blog Problems

  • Unless there has been a change over night, Carol for Peace cannot access her blog to post. I hope the problem is cleared up soon!

  • Alex (my cat) has had recent problems with some spammers posting—yes posting, not commenting—on his blog. Thus far, we have deleted 3 such posts. I have no idea how they got access to Alex’s ID and password.

Pending Execution

I received this email from my long-time friend, Priscilla:

I have known Jack Alderman personally for the last 20 years. He is a devout Christian and I firmly believe in his innocence and am frustrated by this huge injustice.

Please consider signing the petition at: www.justiceforjack.org. You will be asked for a donation at after you sign the petition, but do not need to give anything. Once you put your name and email on the list you can click out.

Please forward to anyone who you think might sign it.

Priscilla

I posted about Jack Alderman back on December 12, 2006 and again on December 27, 2006.

Here Comes Ike!

I received this update from CNN late last night:

Residents living in single-family homes in some parts of coastal Texas face "certain death" if they do not heed orders to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Ike's arrival, the National Weather Service said Thursday night.

The unusually strong wording came in a weather advisory regarding storm surge along the shoreline of Galveston Bay, which could see maximum water levels of 15 to 22 feet, the agency said.

I am concerned about folks in the Galveston and Houston areas. This hurricane is being billed as a real killer. I am also concerned about the increased frequency of highly destructive storms, which at least one talking head says is caused by global warming.

Smiles

I can’t end this post after writing about so many concerns without the opportunity to smile. So, how about some KATZ? I still have hundreds of ‘em!

  1. Dear Nick ~~ It seems that Blogger is having a few problems once again. I lost my Blogs I read list last night,
Great post and songs for the anniversary of 911. And those dreadful hurricanes
are so destructive. I pray they won't be too severe. Thank for your comment about the Grocery List story. It was a good one
Take care Nick, I hope you are keeping well. Very best wishes, Merle.

  3. Is your virus scanner up to date? The most likely way the password was stolen was with a bit of malware called a "key logger," that keeps track of all your keystrokes and sends it to a third party. (I like to run Ad-Aware in addition to my regular antivirus program- it's a freebie.)

I'll keep an eye on your blogs, and shoot you an email if I see something I think doesn't belong there.

  5. Wow! Kind of scary to think it would be that easy to post on another blog! I hope you are able to get this resolved for Alex!

  6. Hope Alex's blog gets sorted. I need to go see but have enough trouble getting round the ones I got!

Love the Katz. I have a kitten that does sneak attacks like that.

  7. I didn't know about the people POSTING on Alex's blog. Where do people find the time to insert themselves in the business of others? I can barely manage my own.

Ike is very scary. Cities in the U.S. are probably going to take a hard hit. My heart is still sad about Haiti. They keep getting beat down even after it seems there's nothing more to beat down.

I haven't checked out the justiceforjack site yet, but I'll do it now.

    Blessings to you today, Nick.

  10. Merle: Thank you. Alex and I are both trying to get healthier at the moment.

Sweets: I wondered about that LOL cat, too. I have read that cats can be trained to use the toilet. I have considered that impossible since I can’t train Alex to do anything!

Thomas: Yep, my virus scan and spy sweeper are both up to date and run regularly. This was the second such post on Alex’s blog by two different companies. They appear to be emails that were somehow received and posted to his blog by Google.

  11. Maxxo: Yep, I thought it bizarre. I rather don’t believe that you and Alex could infect each other. But, then, what do I know? I didn’t think anyone except authorized folk could make a blog post!

Dana: Yes, scary. At the moment I am deleting the unauthorized posts as they appear.

CrazyCath: Thanks. Visit Alexicon when you can. Alex’s posts are generally short—cat’s do have short attention spans.

  12. Carol: The weather in general is concerning me. I rather fear that our world is going to have more and more weather-related disaster in coming years. That’s another reason to be glad to be rid of an administration that doesn’t believe in “science”—at least when scientific findings impinge on corporate profits!

Mike: Blog gremlins are a pain in my butt!

  13. Blogger seems to have a mind of its own at the moment but someone actually posting on your blog is scary!

  14. In reference to Carol's blogging difficulties, for about a week I could not access ONE blogspot.com blog from my gallery computer. My ISP thought it might be my computer, so I brought in a laptop from home. It couldn't access them either. It was either my ISP gateway's server or Blogger's server. A couple of days ago everything started working again, but it was a frustrating mystery. I thought that was bad, but someone gaining access to post to another's blog, that's really scary.

These technological difficulties are nothing of course compared to Ike and the issue brought to our attention by Priscilla.

  15. Hi Nick, just wanted to say thanks for dropping by and commenting on my blog ... my posts have been very few and far between lately ... hopefully I will have more changes to blog now !!
I read Alex's unusual post via my google reader ... it was still there, although you had deleted it !! How odd that spammers are attacking his blog ... maybe you need to change some passwords.
Anyway, hope you are both doing OK. I want you to know that I do read your blogs reasonably often, although don't usually comment, via my google reader. I'm glad things are doing OK for you at the moment. Take care, dear Nick, and please give Alex a pat for me ... Connie/Meow

  16. If you haven't already done so, I would change alex's password immediately, to something complicated with both letters and numbers.
