In one of the comments I wrote on Wednesday’s Coffeehouse, I said that I have injured my leg. Yep! After a couple of years of having problems with my left leg, I have now injured my right leg.
On the second day of pain so bad that I had trouble sitting up in bed, standing, dressing, walking, etc., I telephoned Dr. Mike’s office. The next day Dr. Claudette came to my house. Again, I am impressed: she knew what she was doing and made sure that I really understood, too.
As for the diagnosis, I have pulled/strained or whatever the Sartorius muscle in my right leg. Dr. Claudette called in an Rx for pain meds and instructed me to put ice (cold) on my leg for 2 days, and then a heating pad. She also made arrangements for a physical therapist to drop by early next week, probably on Tuesday. The office will call me with the time the therapist is coming.
So it appears that I am stuck in the house for a while. Since I can’t lift my right leg, I kinda scoot/drag it along Chester-style (do you remember Dennis Weaver as Chester Goode—I’m a-comin’, Mr. Dillon—in the TV show, Gunsmoke?).

Obviously I can’t drive, but I need to be able to drive by January 23rd when I must be at the VA hospital for recertification to receive oxygen therapy. I don’t want to miss that and have the VA take away my oxygen!
I had to smile, thinking of you as Chester (not that I like the fact that you're limping, but because of my Chester memories).
ReplyDeleteI hope that your leg is better soon. I guess if you have to be housebound, it's good to do it while it's so cold outside.
Healing hugs to you.
Sorry to hear you're under the weather Nick! Take care and rest up as much as you can! You and Alex hang in there!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I hope you feel better and Alex gets to get out of the house for a bit. I know how it is -- I hate going out if it's below 20 degrees. I'm bundled up inside going STIR CRAZYYYYYY!
ReplyDeleteBeing house bound, whether from illness/injury or weather, isn't fun. I'm sorry you and Alex are stuck.
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought of Chester in years! Sorry you're doing the Chester-crawl, but I enjoyed the memory, anyway! I hope you are back to a two-footed gait soon.
If you cannot drive your self,I hope that you find some kind soul that will take you.Sorry that you are having so much trouble.
ReplyDeletesorry to hear about your leg, good thing you have good help with Dr.Mike and associates :)
ReplyDeleteIt will warm up soon and alex will be able to roam around outside. I know how it can get when being housebound.
Be sure to take your vitamins, if you're not able to get out in the sunshine. The winter blues are blah enough with sticking a vitamin-D deficiency on top of it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you recover soon- I know how awful strains can be!
Nick I am so sorry that you are hurt. How did you do that? I hope that you will be fit as a fiddle soon so Alex can go outside and enjoy himself.
ReplyDeleteWhen my sister and I were young, we would write plays about Gunsmoke. She always got to play the Marshall and Miss Kitty, while I on the other hand played Doc and Chester. I had that limp down pretty good. So your mention and the photograph of them took me to a pleasant memorie. Thanks for the nice post. Keeping you in my prayers.
I hope your leg heals VERY soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen you wrote about Chester I could imagine his voice!
Take care.
Carol: Thank you. I have no idea where that thought of walking like Chester came from. I just popped into my mind and seemed to be a very accurate description of my hobbling gate.
ReplyDeletePatty Szymkowicz : Thank you. Rest I am certainly getting! Those meds make it impossible for me to stay awake. I’m napping as much as Alex.
Deb: Thank you. Alex did get out of the house late this morning. The rushed past me when I when out on the porch to retrieve the mail. The temperature was a bit warmer—about 19 F—but I still expected him to be scratching the door to come in relatively soon. However, the damned furball stayed out more than two hours.
ReplyDeleteLynilu: Thank you. I rather enjoyed the memory of Chester and Gunsmoke, too. It led me to look for images on the Internet and I learned that Dennis Weaver is dead. Sad.
Mike Golch: Thank you. Yep, If I’m not able to drive by the middle of next week, I’ll seek transportation.
ReplyDeleteXmichra: Thank you. I am very impressed with Dr. Mike and his associates at MD2U. I suppose the outside was warm enough for the furball today for him to stay out for 2 hours plus.
Thomas: Thank you. I popped 2 “A thru Z Select Antioxidants, Vitamins, & Minerals” immediately after reading your comment.
ReplyDeleteFinding Pam: Thank you. That’s a neat story about you and your sister playing Gunsmoke! You must have been fun kids. I like that.
dancingonabladeofgrass : Thank you. It’s strange that you could imagine Chester’s voice because I could, too! I’ve not thought of Gunsmoke for many years. Now I have the desire to watch it again.
ReplyDeleteOh my ((Saintly)) please take care of yourself...

Oooh, painful, Nick. I hope the physio gets it right soon. Is there someone who could drive you to the VA in case you're still unable to drive? Although by then you may have more strength and less pain, enough to drive anyway. Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteSorry that you and Alex are suffering cabin fever. Hope the weather improves soon, for the sanity of both of you.
Take care.
Like everyone else, I hope that heals really soon. I also hope the temperatures start going back up again.
ReplyDeleteSaintly Nick, I am hoping that your leg gets better soon. No matter what you have to get to the hospital for your oxygen.
ReplyDeleteTake care of your self and please don't tire yourself out.
Peace
Renee
Sorry to hear about your leg! Hope it heals quickly! If it helps, I didn't go out of my house all day today - too cold! Even Diva didn't get her usual long afternoon walk so she probably feels as annoyed as Alex about being stuck in the house.
ReplyDeleteFeel better!
OMG, the pain must be unbearable, and the cold weather doesn't even help. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteMy prayers that you and Alex keep warm and that your leg heals spectacularly quick!
ReplyDeleteI hope your leg heals quickly and the cold air turns to warmth. And that Alex adjusts to being indoors.
ReplyDeleteWell that's no fun. I hope it clears up soon.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness nick... and you so can't explain things like this to alex!
ReplyDeletei do hope you're feeling better?
