HAIR

HAPPY Aquarian Birthday, Deb!

I have the feeling—no, make that the resolve—that this month the majority of my blog posts are going to be incidents and memories from my past.

For today I had planned to create a Coffeehouse featuring the Broadway play, HAIR. However, time has gotten away from me as other priorities, especially seeking transportation to the VA hospital tomorrow morning for an appointment I have been trying to arrange for 4 months, have taken precedence.

I saw HAIR on Broadway during college spring break of 1968. There are some out of the ordinary stories that go along with that spring break that I promise I shall share before this month is over.

For now, however, I shall simply share a few of my favorite songs from HAIR done by the original (1968) cast (the song Aquarius is the Song in my Mind at the top of the sidebar at right):

Hair

Manchester, England

Ain't Got No

Easy to Be Hard

Where Do I Go

Walking in Space

The Flesh Failures

  3. As I'm listening to these songs, it's so weird how music was back then with their little weird organ-piano music and funny pitches in their voices...so different. Thanks for the entertainment! I only saw the movie a couple of times with Ricki Lake, but never the play... For some reason, I couldn't bear watching John Travolta play the part... I don't know why, just couldn't...

Thank you so much for the b-day wish!!! You're the best Nick!

  7. China Girl: I hope you enjoy the music.

Squirl: If you don’t get a chance to listen today, the songs will be up forever! I’ve been playing HAIR for the past 2 days.

Deb: The movie, from my point of view, sucked. The play was grand! I hope your birthday celebration was grand, too.

James Higham: Yes, it was a while back. I think the off-Broadway version opened in 1967.

  8. Akelamalu : I am so sorry you never got to see HAIR. The play is/was wonderful; as I wrote above, the movie was an overproduced, empty production.

Tony : I am so glad that you were able to see the stage production. I enjoyed my attending it in New York immensely and will blog about the experience before the month is over.

Puss-in-Boots : Yes, it takes me back, too. For me, it was a special experience and the play and music have meaning beyond themselves. I will write about that soon.

Thanks, my transportation to the VA hospital is finally arranged after multiple phone calls over the past three days. I am really tired of dealing with contemporary bureaucracies at which one is seldom able to speak with a human being, just computers.
