Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness month. I could write a post about autism from my gleanings over the years, but that would most probably be boring.

So, may I suggest that you visit Crystal Jigsaw's blog and at least read her April 22nd post concerning life with her child, Amy?

C. J. writes (in part) in her April 22nd post:
The niggling feeling I have had recently made me somewhat apprehensive about my knowledge as a parent of a child with autism. As each day breaks, Amy teaches me something else about this incredible condition and I have come to realise that, even though I say I understand her, know her, bond with her, there will be issues arising in the future for which I will need support.

  1. Thank you for bringing our attention to that, Nick.

I was particularly struck by the comment by Crystal Jigsaw who tells us how an autistic child experiences life.

It was good to read that CJ has a wonderful GP(General Practitioner).

How little we understand of what others experience.

  2. Haven't had a chance to read CJ's post yet. I will, thanks.

Have you thought of a live trap for the bunny? Or would that be a bad idea with Alex also being in the house?

  3. Thanks, Saint Nick. If we can make just one person aware and a little more understanding then I think we've done a good job.

    Love and best wishes,
    CJ xx

  4. Apologies ... I was half asleep when I made my post. I hadn't realised that CJ was the blog author.

Thank you again for making me more aware.

  5. Treatment for autism has improved dramatically in my lifetime. There's still a lot to be done, but things are so much better now than they were not long ago.

  6. Thank you for that post, Nick. My grandson and the boy next door have Asperger's syndrome which is in the Autism spectrum. We are fortunate in that both boys are mild, whereas autism is very severe. I do feel for parents with an autistic child, but I do feel we learn from these children, as we do from Down syndrome children. They are all here for a purpose.

  7. I came here yesterday, but I got all caught up in reading C.J.'s blog and I forgot to come back here and comment.

I feel a great deal of compassion for parents dealing with tough issues with their kids, no matter what the issues are. It's not easy dealing with such things in our culture of minimal community.

  9. I'm glad autism has received the awareness it has. For some reason it seems awareness runs in trends, and right now the trend is autism. It sure helps those dealing with it.
