Father, Grandfathers & Special Uncles

We thank you for our own parents, and for all, whether married or single, who are mother or father to us, as we grow to the fullness of the stature of Christ. ~ United Church of Christ Book of Worship, Service of Marriage

My Father:
Robert Lawrence Temple
(He died 25-years-ago when he was the age I am now)

My maternal grandfather:

Adam Karl Hertle
(He was killed when my mother was about 2-years-old)

My paternal grandfather:

Nicholas Lawrence Temple
(He died when I was about 8 years old)

Although one of my grandfathers died before I was born and the other died when I was quite young, I had two uncles who acted as grandfathers to me:

Uncle Frances Joseph ("Frankie Joe") Bossmeyer
(Holding my son, Nick III, in West Germany)

Uncle Otto Karl Weber
(Can you tell that he was born in Germany?)

Now, please click over and wish Carol at A Peace Carol a Happy June 21 Birthday.

  1. What a lovely tribute to fathers everywhere, Nick. Father figures are just as important as fathers, my daughters were lucky enough to have had their beloved grandfather as a positive father figure during their childhood and teens. Some aren't so lucky.

  4. Happy Fathers Day Nick! I have a lovely Dad and with no mention of age or anything else if I had you as a dad I'd be more than proud! You have so much to give and we are all recipients of your goodness you share one way or another. Have a wonderful day!
I will be going over to wish Carol a Happy Birthday too!
My daughter bought her dad two books, 4 bottles of British Ale and a cuddly lion with a t-shirt on and the words Top Dad! Her card had a 'Best Dad' badge attached which she proudly pinned to his chest. They have just gone out together and I inadvertantly forgot to tell him to take out his pin badge... I'm sure the shop keeper will have a smile!
(Oh and my son bought a cd of Bruce Springsteen for him... you can never go wrong with Bruce!)

  8. A lovely post, Nick. I missed my Dad very much yesterday, but then, I miss him every day, although he died 36 years ago. Your family pics are fascinating. What an elegant woman your maternal grandmother was.
