February 14, 1946
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
Now I'm sixty-four?
Now I'm sixty-four?
Daddy & Me
According to my mother, I was one of nine baby boys delivered by the same physican at the same hospital on Valentine's Day, 1946, who supposedly said to the mothers, "If you ladies had wanted Valentines, I would gladly sent you cards."
The Theme Song of my life:
If there's one more town, I'll be goin'.
A fight for the winnin' I'll be there.
If there's one more song, I'll be singin'.
I'm always goin' but I don't know where.
A fight for the winnin' I'll be there.
If there's one more song, I'll be singin'.
I'm always goin' but I don't know where.
MY buddy:

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Nick!
ReplyDeleteI was never much of a Beatles fan, but that song is one I have always liked. It takes on new meaning at our age, doesn't it? To have those who will always need us, feed us, is so important. Thank goodness for our children, our grandchildren and our friends who hold us dear int heir hearts.
Wonderful Party!!!

I need you, Nick and /i'm sure I'm not the only one. You are a life-enhancing person. Happy birthday and I hope you are having a great day. Facebook is playing up so I'll thank you here for the lovely card you left me there. Lots of love from Simi and me to you and Alex. xx woof!
ReplyDeleteLynilu: Thank you. I have been really enjoying this party! For the past 2 months or so my mother must have asked me how old I was going to be today most of the times I have spoken with her. At some point I began humming Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm sixty-four?. I guess it simply became the theme of this day.
ReplyDeleteI hope that your Happy Birthday was the bestest one ever! Did you let Alex have a few licks of frosting?
ReplyDelete~Crikey
Lynilu: The Kingston Trio was my introduction to "folk music," my inspiration for learning to play the guitar, and ultimately my mentors for stepping out on a stage (or a chair in a coffeehouse or the chancel of a church). One More Town became a part of my repertoire soon after I began singing; I think I recognized it as my "theme song" when I was in my 40s and realized that I had moved towns some 15 times in the first 39 years of my life.
ReplyDeleteIf there's one more town, I'll be goin'. A fight for the winnin' I'll be there.
If there's one more song, I'll be singin'. I'm always goin' but I don't know where.
That same concept regarding change & the unexpected is the inspiration for the words of Ursula K. LeGuin in my header: The only thing that makes life possible is permanent, intolerable uncertainty; not knowing what comes next.
Looney Luna: Thank you, my friend!
ReplyDeleteAkelamalu : Thank you, my very dear friend!
ReplyDeleteEx-Louisville Guy: Thank you, J.M. At the moment, Alex and I would like to be in the warm of your part of this great land.

ReplyDeletenitebyrd: Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Reverend Nick. Your life is a blessing to this world.
ReplyDeletePuss-in-Boots: Thank you, my dear friend. No, you aren't late. I think that this party should run for a very long time--maybe until I'm 65? Another person born the same time as me? That's wonderful. My first roommate in college was also born on February 14, 1946. His name is Bill and he has become a renowned physician and medical research scientist, whose work has truly benefited the world. Perhaps February 14, 1946 was a good time to be born.
ReplyDeleteAbby: Thank you, my dear old friend! You are perhaps the longest commenter on Nick's Bytes

ReplyDeleteTristan and Crikey: Thank you, Kitty Cats, for dropping by the party. Alex decided he doesn't like cake frosting; however, he did get a piece of sausage or two and a couple of pepperonis from the pizza that my son brought over.
