10,000+ Visitors and a Big Thank You

I see that while I have been otherwise occupied the 10,000th visitor to this blog has come and gone. I had meant to post an entry asking visitor number 10,0000 to leave a comment and let me know who put Nick’s Bytes over the mark. It’s too late for that, but not too late to thank everyone who has stopped by this blog. THANK YOU!

Bridge of Hope

My “otherwise occupied” business the past few days has been creating a news letter for the Kentuckiana Steering Committee of Bridge of Hope that I chair. Bridge of Hope is a national non-profit organization that seeks to end and prevent homelessness—one church and one family at a time. The program matches trained, church-based mentoring groups with single mothers and their children, one of the most vulnerable groups to experience homelessness. The Kentuckiana Steering Committee is working toward bringing this ministry to the Louisville, Kentucky, and southern Indiana community.

I have now created/edited an almost complete draft of our first newsletter. Here is the part that I personally wrote as chair of the steering committee:

During the eighteen or so months that I have chaired the Bridge of Hope® Kentuckiana Steering Committee, I have discussed Bridge of Hope model with dozens of people. Often—even before I complete my description—people say “That sounds like…” or “Didn’t ______ do something like that…” My response is always, “No. Bridge of Hope is different.”

The Bridge of Hope model is different because it:

  • Utilizes mentoring groups composed of Christians from one church who…
  • Provide friendship, practical help, emotional support and spiritual nurture
    to…
  • One "at-risk" single mother and her children…
  • For an average of 12-18 months…
  • With professional staff providing support to the mentoring group and…
  • Case management services to the mother and her children.
Death of Satnam Sandhu

Yesterday I saw Cimron—I am unsure of the spelling—and her husband at the convenience store her family operates. She is the daughter of Satnam Sandhu. This was the first time I have encountered her since her mother’s tragic death. I shared my grief with her and realize how horrifically the family has been affected.

Yesterday the man allegedly responsible for her death was in court. Since my previous link to the Louisville Courier-Journal article on her death is now inoperative because the Courier-Journal charges a fee to access article that are more than seven days old, below is the text reporting his indictment:

Nathan Thomas Lynch was indicted yesterday on multiple charges, including murder and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, in a hit-and-run on Dec. 18 that resulted in the death of Satnam Sandhu.

Lynch is also charged with assault and wanton endangerment because there were four other people in the car.

Sandhu, 50, died of a head injury at the scene after Lynch's vehicle hit the car she was riding in while it was stopped at a red light on Shelbyville Road at Hubbards Lane.

Lynch, 37, of the 500 block of Logsdon Court in Douglass Hills, was found in a back yard about two blocks from the scene. Bond was set at $200,000.

More Theft Discovered

The other day as Tiffany was cleaning my livingroom, she pointed out that I have at least five DVDs missing. I keep my DVDs in two revolving holders and, when Tiffany organized them for me, she noted at all of the spaces were filled. Now five spaces are empty.

We can only assume that when Brian and Stephanie entered my house while I was not home and retrieved their TV, which I had not risked placing on my front porch with the rest of their stuff, they purloined the DVDs. Of course, as with the money from my wallet and other items missing, I have no proof. I wonder when I shall stop finding stuff missing and destroyed by them.

Christmas Is Over

My Christmas decorations are down and I am looking forward to the New Year with high Hope and great expectations!

  3. I add my congratulations on you now 10120 visitors!

Bridge of Hope sounds like something we need here in the west.

I would find your ex-guests and demand my DVDs back!

I see you aren’t celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas this year!

Again, as you said one to me:

Here's to you and here's to me
I pray that friends we'll always be,
But if by chance we disagree,
The heck with you and here's to me!
