Two O’clock in the Morning

It happens every morning about two o’clock. And has been happening for weeks. At about 2:00 a.m.—or maybe 1:50 a.m. (such as this morning) or maybe 2:10 a.m.—I awaken. It doesn’t matter what time I go to be or fall asleep—about two o’clock I wake up. It doesn’t matter how tired I am—about two o’clock I wake up. And I am so tired of it.

Most recently—the past four or five days—I have awakened to pain. Pain in the teeth in my right upper jaw where the fillings fell out about a week ago. Pain in my right ear. And now pain in my left arm. And I am so tired of it.

I will remain awake until about 4:00 a.m. I don’t know why, but I will. Then exhaustion will overcome me and I shall fall asleep. That is part of the pattern, too. And I am so tired of it.

I was able to obtain a medical appointment for tomorrow afternoon. I need to find out more about this—I need to end the 2:00 a.m. pattern! But then I had to cancel it because a fellow pastor called just after I made the appointment and said I had to be in Indianapolis for a meeting tomorrow. But when I called the local pastor with whom I was to ride, he said he wasn’t going—that he never attends those meetings because he can do what needs to be done by phone. That beats, he said, four hours of driving. So I could have gone to the doctor tomorrow. Now I must wait until Saturday—and I am so tired of the 2:00 a.m. awakening and the pain.

Enough said.

  2. Sorry about your 2:00 wake-ups. Move out to Arizona. I have never had any difficulty sleeping here.

  3. I have been thinking—seriously—about moving West. Of course, my #2 son informs me that he plans to move east from New Mexico. I really desire to be in the same city as both of my sons—at least for a few years.
