and yep, I'm in the biz of local politics, and I'm even sick of the liars at this level. It's just that one can't be 'officially' involved if you're neither a Dem nor a Republican in Indiana, so I chose to be a Dem precinct committeeperson.
I'm still embarrassed.
btw, lawyers can lie just as well as politicians...I know because I was just canned by another law firm. actually, that feels good.
LYNN: You are so right. During therapy I sometimes, when the situation indicated, would tell my clients to remember the old rule K.I.S.S.—Keep It Simple, Stupid—if they were going to lie to me. Telling complex untruths always trips up the liar, no matter how smart they think they are.
MEOW: You are so right. One way or another, the Truth always comes out. That’s especially true for politicians. That’s why the Fourth Estate—that in the ancien régime of France referred to the press, or sometimes the proletariat—is so important to democracy. The Fourth Estate confronts and holds the government to the truth just as the ancient prophets of Israel and Judah confronted the kings. Perhaps that’s why Republican presidents since the days of Tricky Dickey Nixon have hated and feared the press.
AZSONOFAGUN: I certainly can’t argue with that!
LITTLE SISTER: Many politicians are lawyers; maybe the ability to fabricate truth is the common denominator between the two.
I reluctantly welcome you to the subproletariat. I hope neither of us remains here much longer.
MICHELLE: Or, so poor at lying. When people begin to believe their own lies, they have to build a whole castle of lies to support them. I think that those who are psychotic can easily do that, like the child abuser who convinces himself that the abuse he does is for the benefit of the child. However, those scam artists I have known come up with quick lies and usually screw up because they can't remember the lies they have previously told.
What's really sad Nick is that when we lie, why are we so afraid of the truth? Hurt feelings? As you pointed out everyone is responsible for their own feelings. Fear of repercussions? The truth will out eventually and karma will take over. Actually it appears that the only people we lie to are ourselves. So why would we do that? Afraid to look in the mirror and see what's there? Probably.
I've found that when I tell myself big whoppers, the truth hunts me down and slams me right upside the head!
ReplyDeleteLies always come back to bite you in the bum, I think !!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend.
Take care, Meow
No one can lie like a politician. However, they are professionals at it.
ReplyDeletethat last one was a winner!

Sad thing is, they believe the lies themselves, which is why they're so good at it.
