Thoughts About Love

A friend emailed me the following yesterday. I do not know its source; however, I was so impressed that I forwarded it to other friends. This morning I decided to blog it.

Tolerance vs. Love

Tolerance says, "You must approve of what I do."

Love responds, "I must do something harder:

I will love you even when your behavior offends me."

Tolerance says, "You must agree with me."

Love responds, "I must do something harder:
I will tell you the truth,
because I am convinced 'the truth will set you free.'"

Tolerance says, "You must allow me to have my way."

Love responds, "I must do something harder:
I will plead with you to follow the right way,
because I believe you are worth the risk."

  1. This is so timely, what with 'tolerance' being forced on us and all. Tolerance simply says that you should do only what someone else says you should - very ominous. ec

  3. I never defined "tolerance" in any of those three ways. To me, "tolerance" is a simple acknowledgement that I am not God, and that other people have the right to live their own lives in the way they think is best. Just like I do.

  4. That all reminds me of something, but I can't remember what.

  5. I love this. I'm so glad you blogged it. I had some tears in my eyes at the end. So simple, yet so deep.
