STOP the ABUSE

Abuse takes so many forms—just about anything one can imagine that can be done to hurt a creature or a thing. I suppose if we pondered all of the abuse our world, we could become overwhelmed by its magnitude. I we are moved to work toward preventing and stopping abuse, we can easily give up—overwhelmed by its magnitude.

However, if we each would act to end abuse one person, one creature, or one thing at a time…maybe—just maybe—all of us together cold make an impact.

I take to heart the words ((in the above graphic created by my friend Thomas) of Jerry Garcia: Somebody has to do something about abuse and, like it or not, that somebody is us—you and me!

If a picture is truly worth a thousand words, here is a book to read in a few glances:

  1. Quite comprehensive, Rev. Saint. But Alex’s is cuter.

  6. Hi Nick ~~ Congrats -- great post.
You have covered most of the cases of abuse very well. It doesn't make it easy for the rest of us. Thank you for suggesting this and let us hope it will do some good.
    Kind regards, Merle.

  8. Great job. I'm getting mine up right now and probably will cross post to "granny"

It's a report on what A Woman's Place in Merced is doing to combat domestic violence.

  9. Done - on both blogs. I made an exception on "granny" for this one.

  10. So many forms of abuse are quite frightening and yet two words can motivate us all into trying to eradicate as much as we can.

  12. Someone asked me a long time ago what kind of ad I would put on TV if I had the chance and here is what I said:

"It would be a shot of just me standing there saying that though statistics say childhood sexual/physical abuse is 1 in 4, that's a lie--it's more like 1 in 2. And how do I know? I listen to the stories about all day, every day, year after year...from patients, friends and various others.

If you *really* knew how prevalent it was, you'd be floored. And disgusted. And if you're watching me right now and someone else is in the room with you, there's an outstanding chance they've had some experience along childhood abuse lines too...but they aren';t saying and/or haven't ever told a soul.

    Yes."

Thanks for caring, Nick, as someone else wrote. We need to do more. ALL of us.

  13. I really appreciate your effort. As a physician I have seen different facets of abuse and most times people can't fathom who the abuser or the abused can be.

  14. I know how lucky and blessed I've been when I read through these. I wish no one had to know abuse.
