A Few Notes

I’m taking a break from constructing tomorrow’s Wednesday Coffee House. Actually, I stopped to brush and play with Alex before he went outside to cat around and nap. So, before I get back to the Coffee House, I’ll post a few notes and updates.

Yesterday I telephoned the company that supplies my oxygen tanks for the Veterans Administration. My next allotment of oxygen will be delivered tomorrow morning. While talking with them, I obtained the name and telephone number of the VA person—Susan—who authorized the cut in my oxygen allotment and telephoned her. She was not available, but I was able to leave a message saying I want to appeal the cut in my oxygen supply. As of this writing she has not yet returned my call, but at the very least I have and name and telephone number. It’s a beginning.

I still do not feel that I have completely recovered from Friday’s trip with the reduced oxygen. I still am tiring very quickly and have spent more time sleeping than I have being awake.

Alex’s, Alexicon: A Kitty Cat’s Life with his Hooman, has really taken off recently. I think he is now receiving more visitors than Nick’s Bytes is! If you haven’t visited the furball’s creation, I invite you to click HERE and say Hi to the self-centered feline. (I note the tags that Alex has placed on his blog posts and that the one that is used by far the most is Me).

This morning I received an email from an old and beloved college buddy who forwarded an email attacking Trinity United Church of Christ and specifically Liberation Theology. Although I have attempted to avoid getting hooked into the ObamaJeremiah Wrightreligion—politics quagmire, I felt that I had to respond to this one and did with these words:

(You) are talking about my denomination, the United Church of Christ, of which Trinity is one congregation. As for the hate commentary of the (original) sender, I am a liberation theologian. which was the theology taught at Eden Seminary when I was a student there.

Liberation theology is based upon God's demand for justice and the liberation of the oppressed:

Then the LORD said, "I have seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters; I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Per'izzites, the Hivites, and the Jeb'usites.

And now, behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them." (Exodus 3)

OK, ‘nough said. I’m following Alex outside, taking a morning nap on the deck, and then I’ll return to working on the Coffee House.

  1. Getting a name and a phone number is a fine start. If she doesn’t reply to you, I hope you keep calling and make a nuisance of yourself. I checked out Alex’s blog. You-I mean Alex-made another first-rate blog. I am still smiling at the memory of my visit.

  2. Well at least you have a contact name and number that's a start. You need to rest up and get your strength back Nick. I'll be thinking of you whilst I'm away.

  6. Heres hoping you get some satisfaction from them.

As always, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

Hopefully they'll give you a surplus so we can be treated to more of your serenades! :-)

  7. I'm glad that you got the contact info of someone that MAYBE (I hope) can get you started on the journey to more oxygen!

Happy to hear that Alex is getting his fair share of friends via his blog. He must have a really good blogging mentor!

  8. Nick, you make sure you rest. I was angry when I read that someone had "authorised" the cut in your oxygen. Aren't you supposed to have any quality of life? Honestly, sometimes you'd think it was coming out of their own pocket.

Anyway, take care and make sure you don't tire yourself out too much.
