An Explanation

Yesterday I received an email from a friend who is also a blogger asking me why I haven’t been visiting her blog as much as in the past. I sent her an answer and later realized that other bloggers may be asking the same question. Please allow me to explain:

My health is deteriorating. It’s not that I am on my last legs or anything like that, but I do lack the energy I had just a few months ago. Therefore, I don't read as many blogs each day as I once did. I am often lucky to be awake long enough to able to post on my blogs.

For example, yesterday I awoke at 7:30 a.m. and by 10:00 a.m. needed to nap. I napped until about noon and by 2:30 p.m. I was down for another nap until about 4:30 or so. Again, around 7:00 p.m., I was again asleep and napped until about 10:15. I was exhausted again and retired a bit before midnight.

With more than 160 blogs on my blog roll—which is, I might add, again back on the sidebar of Nick’s Bytes—it now takes me as long as two or three weeks to visit all of the blogs.

So, if you don’t see me commenting on your blog, it is because I lack the time and energy to get to every blog that I truly want to read. If there happens to be something special that you want me to see or comment upon, give me a holler—email—and I’ll be over to visit.

Below are a couple of photographs that I snapped of Alex when I inadvertently awakened him from one of his naps yesterday. From the last several photos I have posted of him, you may have noticed that the furball has now appropriated my desk as well as my kitchen table.

  1. So sorry your health is not so good. I have been very slack on posting and commenting myself lately, just very busy. Alex seems to be doing well. ec

  4. So many things in my mind, don't know how to say them. Lung disease is a horrible thing. I'm sure that's not the only problem, but I know how it can steal a person's life.

I hope you find a way to gain more energy. Then you can leave the cat-naps to Alex.

    Love, hugs, and many blessings,
    Peg

  6. Nick, I believe it is critical that you take care of you ... and of course Alex too! I always feel special when you come to visit me, but don't start worrying until it's been a while since you've posted.

Just keep us up to date on how you are doing and take care of the both of you!

  11. Mr Eddie: Thank you. Alex is doing better; at least I’ve not seen him licking his tummy. Of course, since Alex is a cat, he may being hiding when he licks.

Jody: Thank you. I hope we both improve soon.

Vishwa: Thank you. I wish I could explain how important visiting the blogs of my friends is to me and how frustrating it is for me to find a day has passed and I’ve not made the rounds!

  12. Squirl: Thank you for understanding. My life has changed drastically over the past few years—and not for the best. I realize how much I am tied to my house, not only by the need for oxygen, but also because any trip—even a short one—exhausts me.

Twyla: Thank you. To be exact, there are 168 blogs on my blog roll and 233 feeds to Bloglines, although not all of the latter are blogs. On the 168, I need to remove a few blogs that no longer exist; I suppose I hesitate because removing a blog is like erasing a friend from my address book.

Dana: Thank you. I suppose my body is now forcing me to take care of me! When exhaustion hits me, which it does several times a day, I sleep whether I really want to or not.
As for taking care of Alex, the time delay between my posting these comments and the previous ones is due to the furball demanding that I rush his hair as he ate his mid-morning snack. As long as he was within my grasp, I grabbed the little fellow, cradled him in my left arm as if he were a human baby, and forced the eyedropper with his liquid meds into his mouth. All medicine got down OK!

  13. Thomas: Thank you, my friend. I plan to be dropping by for a long, long time to come!

Maithri : Thank you, my friend. Your words always feel like a blessing of hope.

The Divine Miss M: Thank you, my Divine friend!

Enola: Thank you, my friend. Naps and Alex cuddles are how I spend most of my time these days.

  14. Nick,

I think that, by hanging around Alex so long, you've taken on catly ways - napping throughout the day and such.

I trust you to do what you need to do to take care of yourself first. And as much as I love hearing from you, I'm just happy to know that today you share the same earth as me.

You are in my thoughts daily.

  23. Hi, Nick, just wanted you to know I think of you often. I understand a little bit about the "no energy" thing. I hope there is a return to greater energy and health for you soon. Hope all changes are in a positive direction. Take good care, friend.
