A Question about Cat Behavior

Alex is the first cat to have owned me. I have been the master of many dogs, but I have learned that dog and cat behavior is very different.

For example, when I would offer any of my dogs a doggie treat, it would be out of my hand and into the dog’s mouth in a fraction of second. It was usually literally woofed down and the canine would be begging for a second treat.

It isn’t like that with Alex! Alex refuses to accept a cat treat—even his favorites—from my hand. He wants to place them before him on the table or my (our) desk. Furthermore, he doesn’t want me to just haphazardly put them down; he wants me to line them up, side-by-side, so that the can eat them one at a time without moving from where he is sitting. I do not understand his behavior.

Also, Alex never begs for treats—or anything else.

  2. Yes, well, that certainly is a cornucopia of subjects, Nick. Most interesting, though. I haven't time to do the quizzes as yet...I'll see what I can do tomorrow...I'm going to bed very shortly.

  3. Could it be that Alex is simply a fastidious dinner?

  4. I am a failure as a 1930s housewife. I got -14. I wonder what is the lowest I could have gotten!

  5. WOW Nick what a lot you've done on that meme! I see you've held a praying Mantis - do they bite? Also you've saved someone's life - you must tell us when, how!

  6. Robin: Thanks for dropping by. I hope you’re doing OK.

Say “hi” to Pippa for me and Alex. I look forward to seeing photos of her and reading some puppie stories.

Puss-in-Boots : Yep, a real cornucopia today! I have to do this periodically to catch up with those things I want to post that keep backing up.

Abby: Your right! Alex is fastidious!

  7. Candi: A -14, huh! May I assume that you are much too liberated a woman to be a good 1930s wife?

Akelamalu : Having been around as long as I have (and being a Man for All Seasons), I suppose I should have done a lot of those things! There are more than I would like to do, especially those related to traveling the world.

    I don’t know if a Praying Mantis bites. I wasn’t bitten.

As for saving folks lives, I have done that one than once in my roles as social worker and clergy. I did relate one of those incidents way back in my blog: HERE.

  8. Wow, a huge post and very enjoyable as always. Jessica is like Alex - she won't take food from your hands but has to examine it thoroughly first before devouring. The dogs on the other hand .....

    CJ xx

  9. Cats are very different aren't they? I've had a few cats at the same time that I had other dogs. It's funny to see them interact with each other. (of course they both have to have just the right tempraments)

I love that list ! You have experienced and done so much !
    Have a great day !
    Love ya,
    Susan

  14. Hello! Great list! I just read the one at Akelamalu's place... where I'm visiting from.
I'll get back into memes again soon. I'm usually all over every one that comes my way but after vacation, the holidays, etc. I am still trying to figure out a schedule.

  15. I always enjoy reading about what people have done in their lives.

    A superior 1930s husband, eh?

  16. I did better as a 1930s husband than I did as the wife. :-)

Alex cracks me up. Cats are so different from dogs.

  17. Nick, when I did that meme there were more than 100 questions on it. More like a 105 questions or so.

Evedently, I am a superiour 1930's wife with a score of 130. Though, I doubt if my hubby would agree.
    haha

Nice to find you have done so many interesting things in your life. If you have time, please read mine.

Alex is some kind of cat. He sounds like he is a little OCD with wanting his food lined up. LOL
My cats want to be hand fed. They are so lazy!

    Thanks for the great post.

  19. Why would Alex need to beg for anything when he has a servant like you, Rev. Saint!
