I Have Concluded...

...that I need another bed! I don't know if you can tell from the following photos, but the mattress and frame of mine are bent so low that they are almost touching the floor:

Also, I'm finding that I'm having difficulty sleeping the the bed. For some reason, even using the CPAP, I awaken after an hour or less of sleep unable to breath. I need to take seriously my physician's advise  and find a way to sleep with my head above my chest and, because of my congestive heart failure, my feet at least level with my heart.

Over the past few days, I have been able to sleep longer in my lift chair than in my bed. The only trouble with the lift chair is that I can't roll around and I awaken stiff and painful. (Hmmmm, could that be the reason for these muscle aches I have suffered for the past week? As I grow older, I am finding that I am much less able to make connections than I once was).

My next move is to discover if either Veterans Administration or Medicare can help me obtain a hospital bed that meets my needs.  One with a Tempur-Pedic mattress like the one I had the last time I was hospitalized would be very nice:

Speaking of my bed, ever since we got the electric blanket, Alex no longer naps in nests that he makes on the floor:

Please? We need less than $10 by the end of January to earn a $100 payment.

  1. Oh Nick I do so hope that you will be able to get a new bed and soon. It's terrible being unable to sleep in comfort and yet we all need to sleep as it is the way our bodies repair.
You really do need to get some help with your bed.
Lets hope it's true that good things do come to good people.
    Much love

  2. Yep, Nick. I'm in agreement with you. Your bed has seen better days. I also know the discomfort of sleeping in one position in a chair. I hope that you are able to get some help in attaining a comfy bed.

In the meantime, I hope that you can get some good rest somehow.

  5. Well, judging by the big ole smile on that lady's face in the picture, she certainly likes that bed! Yes, you should get one of those. I bet it would make reading in bed quite comfy too!

  6. Nick, I used to have such back problems because I was sleeping on the oldest bed on the planet. The wood and springs were poking me each night. I went to Raymour & Flannigan <--sp and got an ultra pillow top w/foam plush mattress. You can't flip these puppies over to "refresh" them, you have to turn them around instead. But let me tell you - I cannot wait to come home every evening to sleep on it. It's like sleeping on a cloud, yet it has the firmness that your back needs. Also, may I suggest NOT getting those 'foam' mattresses - some people swear by them, but let me tell you, I had to sleep on one while on vacation. They're like $2000 dollar mattresses, but we could not get out of our sinkholes ----and that's what it does. It leaves your imprints on it for at least a minute or so. It's like being sucked into quick sand. Trust me on this one. :)

Hope you get a really great bed my friend! A good night's rest is like magic.

  7. My parents just bought a sleep number bed that raises the head like a hospital bed, my dad is having back surgery and they needed a new bed anyway so they thought that would be the best option. Expensive but medically necessary. Hopefully you will be able to get some kind of financial assistance through the VA or by other means.
