Now I'm 64

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore

Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
Now I'm sixty-four?

Whoo!

That's the way I ended my Valentine's Birthday post. (The party is still going on if you want to drop by!) Since then I've been doing a little bit of reflecting on what it means to me to be 64. Here are a few thing that came to my mind:

I never though I would live to be this old. When I was a kid I would usually spend weekends with my aunt and uncle, who I called Abba (Alma) and Frankie Joe (Francis Joseph).

L to R: their friend Luella; Frankie Joe; Abba

Usually I would sleep in the huge bed with Frankie Joe. As a youngster I was often afraid that I would wake up to find that old Frankie Joe (he must have been in his 50s) had died in his sleep. I knew that I would never live to be as old as Frankie Joe was then. Well, I've passed that age and then some.

I am now older than my father lived to be. My father died at age 63, in 1983. I am now older than he.

Daddy & Me

Being 64 feels just like being 63! I don't know what I expected, but on February 14 I felt the same as I did on February 13! If anything, I feel more energetic with fewer pains to bitch about! Hmmmm...

I now have audio again! This has nothing to do with being 64, but it sure helps me feel energized! I have computer audio again for the first time in over a year thanks to my elder son, Nick, who suggested that I stop trying to get my computer's registry to recognize audio and obtain a USB audio headset. So I did:

At the moment I am listening to Al Joelson singing My Mammy

It feels so great to have music that I can easily find again!  Going through hundreds of CDs to locate one song was too much for me. This is much better, since I have almost all of my CDs on the computer. I even think I start creating a Coffeehouse (remember those?)  post for next week!

Watch out World!
Sometimes Saintly Nick is a young 64!

  1. Good Morning Nick,
You are indeed sounding very very upbeat. It must be good to be 64 and I am thinking that maybe I shouldn't worry about it this getting older malarkey, not judging by the way you are today.
It's great that you have your music back and so close to hand as well.
Music is the sound track of our life.
Sounds like your going to have fun listening to yours.
Those photos are lovely, you must treasure them very much.
    Much love
    Lia

  2. It's funny that with each year, I feel more happy and contented, despite the unavoidable negatives in life. I enjoy the simple things with greater joy, and I feel my spiritual connections grow stronger. Growing older certainly isn't all bad, as we often thought when we were younger.

And hey, whipper-snapper, just wait till you are 66! I'll be there in April, and it's gonna be even better! I'll come back to brag about it when I get there!

  3. I know what you mean Nick about not feeling any older. It's not until you remember what you could do at 21 that you can't do now that you realise you ARE getting old! LOL

  8. I'm glad you're feeling young. My own father didn't make it past 60. But I have a feeling I'll be around longer than that. Hope you enjoyed your birthday.
