The Three Question Personality Test

KENYA

In early January I shared part of an email that I had received from a friend in Nairobi, a Kenyan pastor, regarding the conflict there. I have not heard from him in over a week and he’s not responded to my emails. Please keep him, his family, and the people of Kenya in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

TRAVELING? YOU MAY WANT TO CARRY YOUR OWN DRINKING GLASS

When I friend emailed me a link to this video, I thought it so improbable that I checked it out at Scopes.com. Unfortunately, I found that it isn’t a hoax. Yuck!

COLD CAT

I have written before about Alex ’s aversion to cold, which is possibly even greater than his aversion to water. The temperatures here have been mostly in the 20s and 30s (F) the past several days and Alex had not been outside since (I think) Monday. He has also been driving me bonkers by demanding that I open the door for him, where he would sit in the open threshold looking out for minutes at a time but refusing to go out into the cold. Then he would back away from the door, only to repeat his demand for an open door twenty or thirty minutes later.

The furball and I got up this morning at 5:00 a.m. and by 6:30 I had opened the door for him three times. When, twenty minutes later he again demanded that I open the door, I resoundingly said, No!!!! Of course, he waited a few minutes while I was writing this post, crept up beside me, and sank his claws into my thigh. When I jumped up to chase him, he ran to the front door, which I opened when I caught up with him. This time he went outside—and stayed out for all of three minutes.

Now the cat who is the love and bane of my life has retreated to his latest catnapping spot—a bottom shelf in my bookcase on top of my briefcase—and is, I think, asleep:

Regarding Alex and my nose-hose, nothing has changed. He still enjoys chasing, catching, and playing with it. And I still tell him, No! That nose-hose is mine!!!

  1. Hi Nick

Yep, sounds like Alex has you right where he wants you!

As for that video on the glass washing (or lack thereof)... eeeuw! Just laziness or are the hotels in question trying to save money?

  2. That video is disturbing to say the least. I'll have to forward it to my parents who, as founders of MIA are on the constant move and stay in Hotels at least once a month. They are getting older and I'd hate for something like this to make them ill. Savage is it not?

Oh my that's just gross, isn't it? Whoda thunk it?

  3. That same news story was shown here...totally gross. I didn't want to believe it (being that it WAS Fox News) but seeing the page on snopes...well next hotel I stay at I'll make sure to bring a few plastic cups just in case they don't have plastic cups.

  4. I came out as an Idealist as well. Now if you'll excuse me I am going to go drink from a dirty glass. Cheers!!

  5. George doesn't lke the rain. I took him out for a walk this morning in the rain. Two of his least favourite things combined! (Actually he wasn't as resistant as I expected; maybe he is getting to enjoy walkies.)

  6. I'm an SJ (Guardian) according to that test.

I could only make it through 1/2 that video (dirty glasses) before my stomach and head wouldn't let me continue. I'm glad to know, but saddened that it is that way.

I shall keep both you and your Kenyan friend in my thoughts and prayers.

    Tell Alex 'hi' from Molly.

  7. I'm an NF also. :-)

I hope your Kenyan friend is okay.

Thanks for the video share about the lousy housekeeping. I never would've thought that was happening. Too gross.

As far as the nose-hose, Alex believes that what is yours is also his. It must be a game you're playing with him, right?

  8. Hi Nick
    A beautiful place here!
    Excellent post! You are Master.
    Thank you.
    have a good day

  9. Why did no one tell me that I had an error in the first line (now corrected)? Silly me!

  10. My brother used to work night audit at a hotel and told me horror stories. Sometimes if the sheets looked clean the housekeepers would just make it up with the dirty sheets. Guests would report used... um... condoms in their beds. A lot of times I don't think it's the upper management trying to save money, I just don't think they know. A seasoned housekeeper will train the new housekeepers and teach them how to save time.

I even worked at a restaurant once and cut my finger while cutting onion for salad. I ended up getting blood in a five-gallon bucket of lettuce. After I started to dump the lettuce in the garbage a senior waitress said to me, "What are you doing, we're busy. You don't have AIDS do you? No? Then just keep it." (I did throw the lettuce away.) Ewww!

  11. Definitely take your own glass! It makes you worry about other things!

  14. Does Alex not do the little paw shake when it's cold out? When it's cold, Miss Kittie's front paw will involuntarily do a spastic little shake before she decides whether she'll go out or not.

I saw that video a little while back and decided that IF I ever stay at a hotel again, I'm bringing my own sheets, blanket and water bottle. But camping sounds even better!

I hope that you hear from your friend soon.

  16. ` Eeeeewwwww! I will never trust a hotel with my water glasses! Thanks for that informative bit of news! That's amazing! And I'll keep my eye out on cruise ships, too! (Which also don't clean out their freshwater tanks, so on your cruise to Mexico, drinking from the faucet is just like doing the same on land....)

` Ah! Pesky cats being... pesky! This is why I've never given then my undivided attention for more than ten minutes (which could be construed as neglect through computer addiction), and I also don't let them tell me where to go during walks. That's one thing Alex needs - some kind of thing that acts as a leash!
` Not that I'm perfect - I mean, they apparently still love eating phones... as I've posted. Also, in the story on my website, they were being real pests to a sleeping guest of ours, so we locked them in solitary confinement and ignored their pitiful mews.

  17. The fact that you haven't heard from your friend in Kenya is very disturbing. Especially after his last post. We will continue in prayer for them. Is it unusual that emails to them go unanswered?

I've seen the video about the hotel maids. I can't afford hotels with real glasses - the last few I've stay in, your lucky to get dixie cups !

Maybe Alex needs a toy that is more appealing than your nose hose? Although, that would be hard to top. How can he resist a wiggly hose that leads to his favorite person? Maybe next time he pounces it, say nothing, and when you reach him, step on his tail. Negative association - you know? Nah, that's mean.

    Take care
    Love,
    Susan

  18. Like the personality test - sounds like you all right!

Disturbing video - thank you for the warning...

Alex is one lucky cat - but I wish he'd know that the nose hose is a no-no!

  19. It appears that Kenya is heading quickly into civil/tribal warfare. Too bad, since it has been one of the few really functional countries in central Africa.

That video doesn’t show the maids wrapping the glasses in cellophane or tissue paper. That’s how I’ve always found them in hotels.

Perhaps Alex with get tired of playing with your nose-hose and find something else of interest.

    Be healthy, Rev Saint!

  20. I'm loving the Muffin Saga!

Next time I'm out I will be buying a plastic cup to take travelling :(

  21. Hi Nick ~~ We saw that video on TV here and it's disgusting to say the least. I do hope your friend in Kenya is OK ~ it's a tragedy what is going on over there. You take care of yourself, Regards, Merle.

  22. I travel a lot on my job and never even considered the fact that the glasses were not clean. I will bring my own cups from now on.

    Thank for the info!
