Alex Update

Friday, August 29, 2008:

Good morning, Everyone! Alex just took his first of 2 doses of daily medicine and it went very well, both pill and liquid! Either the little fella knows that it is good for him or I have become much more adept at administering meds to the cat.

This is a quick post to update you on Alex. I hope to post another one before the end of the day.

Alex and I are back from the visit to Alex’s vet. The problem is, as we suspected, allergies. I, too, suffer from allergies in this allergy infested Ohio River Valley, but Alex’s allergies are more chronic than mine.

To deal with his allergies, the little furball received a cortisone injection at the animal hospital and I have three medicines I have to induce my medicine-detesting buddy to take each day for at least the next couple of weeks:

  • Clavamox drops
  • Erythromycin ointment
  • Chlorpheniramine tablets

If that combination doesn’t work to end Alex’s licking the hair off of his tummy, then he’ll again have to wear one of those cone collars that he hates so much.

Alex has already told the story of today’s visit to the animal hospital Alexicon, his blog, HERE.

  1. poor alex. you know, willow's sister - phoenix - who lives with my dad has the same problem. she is licking the fur off her legs and tummy, and the vet said it was allergies. my dad is trying different food with her, but he took TWO weeks to take her to the vet about it and that was only after much badgering by me and my sister ... i hope both get better soon.

  13. Hope Alex gets better and he is not like Sam Cat when it comes to meds. Maggie is really good and takes anything I give her. But maybe is the best dog I have ever had. Peace

  14. Gosh so sorry to hear about poor Alex's allergies. I moved from one of the most allergy-prone areas of the States to the most allergy-inducing area of New Zealand so I am no stranger to allergic skin disease in pets. I hope he doesn't need the dreaded E-collar this time around!

  15. It's hard on Alex and I know it is hard on you too. Worry is a booger bear. I pray he doesn't have to wear the collar.

I just looked at your profile to see where you are from (I am slow like that) and saw that you are from KY. We are going right above Birmingham (up I-65) into Blount County Al. It is a five hour trip with 3 kids and I suspect lots of folks evacuating too.

I am praying for the folks along the coast and in Gustav's path. Could be VERY bad for New Orleans.

Going to check in with Alex now.

    Be blessed Nick!

    Jen
