Old Photos & Updates

Below are a few of the old photos my mother found at her house and gave to me shortly before Christmas. Following the photographs are a few updates.

I have no idea of the age of this photo. The people are (center) my Uncle Frank Bossmeyer (Frankie Joe to me), (on his left) my Aunt Alma Bossmeyer (Abba to me), and (to the right of Frankie Joe) their friend, Luella Fleck. The photo was probably taken by Luella's husband as they were on one of the many vacations the two couples took together.

This is me in 1987, just after graduation from seminary, standing in the pulpit of the first church I pastored. I can hardly recognize myself!

This is me in 1987, just after graduation from seminary, standing by the ancient baptismal fount of the first church I pastored. Was I really ever that thin?

Muffin, my dog who was my only companion for the years following my divorce and who disappeared when she was 17 years old. I really must tell her story some day.

Mom: Today my mother moved from the rehab center in Louisville to the only one in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, about 80 miles away.

Liberty National Life Insurance Company: Enabled by a telephone call I received from Liberty National’s main office in Alabama looking for the another independent agent was who fired (if one can fire someone who isn’t an employee) at the same time as I, I was finally able to get the scoop on where my commissions are. Baseline: I have no commissions, even though there was more than $2,000 in annual premium policies that I sold and delivered to the purchasers before I was let go for asking a question about my status as an independent insurance agent. The woman to whom I spoke didn’t seem to be too bright, but that may have been due to her Alabama accent. I asked for a written accounting of my sales and commissions, which I was supposedly to have received four months ago.

I don’t know how much longer I’ll be blogging: I’ve run completely out of money. Due to bank fees and “scheduled withdraws”, I am $150.00 over drawn at my bank with a fee of $6.00 a day being added. I have no gasoline and Alex has no cat food. My heat and electricity will be shut off at any time. My #2 son is trying to negotiate with my mortgage company an alternative to foreclosure. When the electricity goes, I’ll no longer be able to blog.

  1. Nick! I'd like to help you. Would you accept a donation in return for your blogging? I enjoy your blogging and don't want to see you go away. Is there an address I could sent a donation? Kind of like a ministry online???

  2. PEACH: What a wonderful offer. I had considered trying to create an e-book from my blogs, but you’re idea and offer is most acceptable. My snail address is:

  3. I'm sorry to hear you're going through tough times. You've been a good friend to me these last few years, and I wish I had more than just words to offer. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  4. Aw man- I just realized that if the power goes out, you can't breathe. Have you arranged for someplace to go?

  5. I enjoyed your pictures but hated your news!! I'm so sorry you're in such a spot. More importantly than blogging, of course, is actually eating and having a place to stay. I hope it all gets figured out. As to the lesser necessity of blogging (don't stop!), is there a library nearby with computers? That's what I've done when the computer's been messed up.
Good luck with everything. Will be thinking of you and Alex.

  7. THOMAS: Thank you. You have been a goods friend to me in many ways, not the least being that I’d have no C-PAP without your help. Yes, if the gas and electricity are cut off, I have to leave my house: no electricity, not C-PAP, no sleep. I suppose I can go to my mother’s house since she’s in the rehab center. The problem is I can’t take Alex because Mom’s allergic to cat dander and even if she’s not livi8ng there I can fill her house with stuff that will make her ill when she returns.

JAY ARE: Thank you so much for your concern. I keep praying that God will provide as God has provided all my life. I am such grace will come; I just don’t know when or in what form.

LAURIS: Thank you so much. I read you email and that’s what brought me back to these blog comments.

  11. Nick,

Don't go. I have been thinking about you and a post where you mentioned your depression.

Can I ask - is there nowhere that needs a pastor? A hospital? A rehab center?

More, can you find another insurance job to tide you over? Or, can you temp for awhile?

Immediate assistance is obviously required - but what about the longer term. How can I help you get back on your feet, dear one?

  12. Nick, in CT I know that utility companies can't shut off power to people that require certain medical devices. I'm sure KY has something similar.

  15. Hi Nick ~~ Great photos that your mother found for you. It is a shock
to look back at what we looked like a few years ago. I am so very sorry that your circumstances have become
so bad and fervently pray that things will turn around for you.
You would be greatly missed as a blogger, but more important, you need to live comfortably.
Thanks for your comments -- the rain we had was great and put out a lot of fires, although some are still burning and mor rain is needed.
Take care Nick and never give up.
    Regards, Merle.
