Wednesday Coffeehouse: The Kingston Trio Returns

Yes, I know that back on July 9th my Wednesday Coffeehouse featured The Kingston Trio. But with the death of Nick Reynolds, one of the original Kingston Trio, a week ago (October 1st) today, this Coffeehouse could feature no one else.

When I heard of Nick’s death, I got a big lump in my throat. I still remember the first time I head Tom Dooley. When I was a kid, I had an old Motorola radio by my bed and I’d listen to it after I climbed into bed at night. The DJ who introduced Tom Dooley said, “If this song hits big on the charts folk music will sweep the country.” It did and I collected every LP the original Kingston Trio recorded.

So here are The Kingston Trio again, with songs you didn’t hear on July 9th.

Hobo’s Lullaby

Coast of California

Chilly Winds

M.T.A.

Take Her Out of Pity

Tijuana Jail

Desert Pete

I'm Going Home

In case anyone is interested, all of the audios I post are from my own CDs.

Stick around. Listen to more music. Have another cup of coffee. You’ll not find a coffeehouse as cheap as this anywhere else.

  5. Well lets see. My coffee is actually water that I am drinking and I generally do not turn sound on at work when I sneek out for a quick break. This coffee house is no fun what so ever.

I look forward to later however.

  6. Sorry to hear about the death of Mr. Reynolds. Thanks for posting some of his (and the other guys') music, though.

Little known Kingston Trio fact: M.T.A. and Tijuana Jail are really easy to play on the ukulele. (Greenback Dollar too. Jury's still out on Desert Pete.)

  8. I find it's quite sad when one of our contemporaries passes on...especially famous people. I had an old friend from the past pass on this week. He made his name originally as a pop singer, but became very well known for his portrayal as Phantom of the Opera here in Australia. I cried when I heard of his death...
